Even though Illumination/Universal's The Secret Life Of Pets came in at No. 1 at the international box office this weekend with $45 million from 53 foreign markets, Warner Bros.' Suicide Squad took second-place with $38 million from 64 foreign markets, pushing its international total to $310.4 million.

Adding that to its domestic haul of $262.2 million, Suicide Squad now has a global total of $572.6 million. That gives it the eighth best worldwide cume for 2016.

Suicide Squad opened No. 1 in Germany with $6.8 million, which is on par with what 20th Century Fox's Deadpool did there earlier this year and 13% better than what Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy did in 2014. Over in Brazil and Italy, the DC super-villain team-up film claimed first-place once again with $3 million ($27.8M cume) and $2.9 million ($7.4M cume), respectively. Suicide Squad dropped to No. 2 in the UK, though its $36.1 million cume there leads all offshore markets.

Suicide Squad will get another nice bump when it opens in Japan on September 10.

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man for himself?

Written and directed by David Ayer based on the characters from DC Comics, the film stars Will Smith ("Ali"), Jared Leto ("Dallas Buyers Club"), Margot Robbie ("The Wolf of Wall Street"), Joel Kinnaman ("RoboCop") and Viola Davis ("The Help"). The cast also includes Jai Courtney ("Insurgent"), Jay Hernandez ("Takers"), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje ("Thor: The Dark World"), Ike Barinholtz ("Neighbors"), Scott Eastwood ("Fury"), Cara Delevingne ("Paper Towns"), Adam Beach ("Cowboys & Aliens"), and Karen Fukuhara in her feature film debut. It is produced by Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

Suicide Squad is now playing in 3D, and in 2D, and in select IMAX 3D theaters.
