It might’ve taken Kevin Smith some time to come around to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as a film, but his support for Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight was never in question.

At the recent Comic Book Men panel at New York Comic-Con, Smith was asked what he thought about the newest superhero film offerings, and he had nothing but compliments for Affleck, specifically just how threatening he was in the role.

“Ben Affleck rules as the Batman. The brilliance of Zach Snyder said, let’s make him look and move like the video game Batman. I mean it used to be Michael Keaton, and f***, Mr. Mom doesn’t hit too hard, but Ben comes in and blows up 12 people just coming in the door.”

As for the inevitable comparisons to Marvel’s cinematic universe, Smith doesn’t find a problem with the two universes going for different visions and is fine with DC aiming for its own unique tone.

“They are never going to be Marvel movies… and as a long time fan of this s*** I don’t care, you are either a DC guy or a Marvel guy and really DC isn’t ever going to do what Marvel does… but really, when I was a kid and wish they had all this s***… so for years we have wanted this and now we got it. So, maybe be careful what you f****** wish for, I guess.”

The upcoming Justice League footage seems to contain the darker tone of Batman v Superman, but with a significant improvement in the levity department. Hopefully it tunrs out to the be the best of both worlds.
