First up is The Goonies and Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin as Bob Newby. Bob is described as “a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.” Astin’s casting certainly has a metatextual touch to it, given how much The Goonies inspired Stranger Things.

Aliens actor Paul Reiser joins the Stranger Things cast as Dr. Owens, “a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.” It sounds like Owens may be playing the antagonistic government scientist role filled by Dr. Brenner (Matthew Moline) in Stranger Things Season 1.

Lastly is Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen Roman, “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the labโ€ฆ” It sounds like Roman may have been a part of the same series of experiments that created Eleven.

Stranger Things Season 2 has entered the early stages of productions. Netflix released the first cast photo at a table reading last week, which apparently took place in the upside-down.

Last week, it was also confirmed that breakout Millie Bobby Brown will return as fan favorite character Eleven in Stranger Things Season 2. The growing cast of Stranger Things Season 2 also includes Power Rangers star, Dacre Montgomery.

Stranger Things Season 2 will pick up one year after the events of Stranger Things Season 1, in the fall of 1984. The exact plot details of Stranger Things Season 2 are still a mystery, but the inclusion of Dr. Owens certainly suggests that Hawkins is still dealing with the fallout of Eleven’s escape and the arrival of the creature referred to as the Demogorgon in Stranger Things Season 1. The season is also said to expand on the mythology of the show, which may mean we’ll learn more about the parallel dimension called the Upside Down.
