Doctor Strange continues its stranglehold over the box office, with many eager to see the climactic and visually impressive battle between Strange and the film’s villain, Kaecilius. While Kaecilius is the villain, it’s not because he rejected the Ancient One’s teachings as you’d expect.

Kaecilius is brought to life on the screen by the talented Mads Mikkelsen, and in a recent interview with Marvel, he was asked why he rejected the powerful Ancient One’s teachings. In Mikkelsen’s eyes, he didn’t.
“He doesn’t. He’s learned everything he could but he rejects her philosophy of being the only one who’s allowed to be as powerful as that.”
Kaecilius doesn’t understand why he can’t become as powerful as she is, and decides to go his own path. Mikkelsen enjoyed his time on the set and did have a surreal moment during the big climactic battle.
“I think maybe the big fight with Strange, and the cape again, where he gets the cape. That was also my surreal moment of like this is mad. We’re flying around. We’re not 15 years old. We’re doing this. This is crazy.”
While the ending was pretty clear, in the world of magic, you can’t ever write someone completely off, and maybe there are more battles between the two to come in the future.
