Tom Holland Says Wearing Spider-Man Suit The First Time Was Disappointing

Late last night, during Jimmy Kimmel Live, Sony Pictures dropped the first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming, and to stoke the hype-flames, Tom Holland took part in a Facebook Live event earlier today.

At one point, when asked what it was like putting the Spider-Man costume on for the first time, Holland explained that the moment wasn’t as magical as one would think. Since he was cast as Spidey while Captain America: Civil War was in the midst of filming, the costume department didn’t have a suit fitted for his physique when he first arrived on the set.

“I literally got cast on Friday and started shooting on Monday,” Holland explained. “So, it was such a fast process that they didn’t have time to make me a suit, so I wore my stunt-double’s suit. And he’s bigger than me. He’s about five-inches taller than me. He’s a bit bulkier than me. And when I first saw the suit, I asked them to close all the mirrors, so I would see it for the first time on, and looking great. I put it on, it felt pretty good. It felt good. But when I opened up the mirrors, it was like saggy, and it looked like a really sad version of Spider-Man. So, it wasn’t the most heroic Spider-Man you’ve seen. It was definitely cool. It definitely looked cool. And now that it fits, it looks great. But on the day, I was very disappointed. It was the biggest anti-climax of all-time. But now it looks great!”

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

The cast features Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.. It also includes Jon Favreau, Martin Starr, Kenneth Choi, Michael Mando, Selenis Leyva, Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg, Jr., JJ Totah, Hannibal Buress, and Jacob Batalon.

The film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), based on a screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley (Vacation reboot) and Jon Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers.

The film is produced by Marvel boss Kevin Feige and former Sony boss Amy Pascal. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Jeremy Latcham, and Stan Lee are serving as Executive Producers.
