Over the past few weeks, Cameron Monaghan has been teasing fans about his return to the series with a slew of buzzworthy pictures. Shortly before the holidays, a photo of Monaghan was shared from the set of Gotham, and his appearance was rather startling. The picture showed Morena Baccarin’s Leslie Thompkins leaning over Jerome’s corpse with a tight expression. Since fans have a synopsis for the premiere, they can understand why the medical practitioner looks so upset; If someone is really trying to bring Jerome back from the dead, then some very bad things could be awaiting her and her friends.
Aside from the set photo, Monaghan has also been quick to tease fans about his character’s connection to the Joker. Many fans believe that Jerome is Gotham’s iteration of the Joker, and the actor sent fans into a frenzy when he shared pictures of himself donning the Clown Prince’s scarred grin. While most of his social media shares have since been deleted, Monaghan was even seen donning one of the Joker’s suits from DC Comics’ New 52 line.
The synopsis has also informed fans that yet another character is set to return to Gotham. Elijah will make a comeback even though he died last season from sampling some poisoned wine. The character, who is played by Paul Reubens, is the father of the Penguin. So far, fans aren’t sure whether the man will be resurrected or simply used in a hallucinatory sequence, but Elijah will more than likely throw wrenches into the Penguin’s plans.
