Crowd-pleasing, big-budget action movies are often ignored by award shows; however, that wasn’t the case with George Miller‘s Mad Max: Fury Road. Last year, it received 10 Academy Award nominations and won 6 — Costume Design, Production Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, Film Editing, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing. But more importantly to Warner Bros., it earned $380 million at the worldwide box office and revitalized a long dormant property. Interest in a sequel or spinoff, whichever comes first, is at a high.

While promoting FX’s Taboo, Tom Hardy said he is looking forward to the sequel and can’t wait to play Max Rockatansky again. “George Miller is a genius! The wheels were rolling from the beginning of Fury Road for three films, so I would assume it’s just crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s,” the 39-year-old English actor told The Daily Beast. “There are other Mad Max vehicles and Furiosa vehicles that are out there—as far as the characters’ mythologies and stories—so it’s a little bit… I’m waiting for the call to get back in the leathers and get cracking on that. I really loved doing it and can’t wait for another outing. I’m hungry to go back out and do some more.”

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max (Tom Hardy) believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa (Charlize Theron). They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
Hardy can currently be seen in Taboo. It airs on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
