One of the original Batman suits that helped kickoff the character’s first film franchise sold at auction.

The design for Michael Keaton‘s role as the Caped Crusader in 1992’s Batman Returns sold for $41,250, according to the auctioneers at Nate D. Sanders Auctions.
That’s a lot of money to not be able to turn your head and neck.
The Keaton batsuit is iconic for its stylized rubber, golden belt, and trademark yellow chest plate, standing at 6’5″
Christian Bale‘s own version of the Batman suit from the Dark Knight and the Dark Knight Rises went to auction last fall, selling for six-times the amount of Keaton’s batsuit, for $250,000. But the production values between the suits, and the amount of time passed from the films, could’ve factored into their final selling prices.
Batman Returns is noted for being the last in the franchise in which Keaton teamed up with director Tim Burton, creating a gothic take on the city of Gotham that was instantly recognized as iconic, before Joel Schumacher made the movies decisively more toy friendly.
The film was financially successful despite being the last in the series and is known for being the first big screen portrayal of both Catwoman and the Penguin, played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito respectively.
