Petitions don’t always have the desired effect on studios and companies, but in Young Justice‘s case, the reactions of the fans were heard loud and clear. DC and WB are rewarding those longtime fans with a third season in the Young Justice series, which now has a release date and title.

The project will be called Young Justice: Outsiders, but surprisingly it won’t be hitting Netflix as some had originally thought. Young Justice: Outsiders will launch on the new Warner Bros. Digital Network, a streaming service built just for WB, in 2018. The series is already in production along with a new Titans series, but there will be some who aren’t keen on the fact that they will have to add a new streaming service to the already packed climate to view it. Still, those same fans will be happy to finally see the team in action once again.
The third season will feature a coming of age story arc with a much darker mission, one that has them trying to stop a meta-human trafficking ring. The description states “In “Young Justice: Outsiders,” the teenage Super Heroes of the DC Universe come of age in an animated world of super-powers, Super-Villains and super secrets. In the highly anticipated new season, the team faces its greatest challenge yet as it takes on meta-human trafficking and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy.”
Young Justice was canceled after two seasons, and for the past few years, fans have stated their case to whatever executive and service would listen. When the first two seasons became available on Netflix, the petitions gain fervor once more, and many thought a potential deal was all but done. Warner Bros. wants to use that momentum to build their custom streaming service, which makes business sense but might hurt the show’s reach, at least initially.
Sam Register (“Teen Titans Go!,” “Justice League Action”) is executive producer of “Young Justice.” Brandon Vietti (“Batman: Under the Red Hood,” “Superman Doomsday”) and Greg Weisman (“Star Wars Rebels,” “Gargoyles”) are producers of the series, produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Emmy Award winner Phil Bourassa (“Young Justice,” “Justice League Dark,” “Teen Titans: The Judas Contract”) serves as the series’ art director.
