Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is the latest film from director Luc Besson, the director of The Fifth Element, Lucy, and The Professional. The film stars Dane DeHaan (Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad).
The budget for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is โฌ197 million, making it the most expect French film ever produced by a significant margin, topping the previous most expensive French film Asterix and the Olympic Games and its โฌ78 million budget. Besson’s own The Fifth Element is the next on the list with a budget of โฌ75 million.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets has been in development since 2012 but entered principal photography in France in January 2016.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is written and directed by Luc Besson, based on the French science fiction comics series Valรฉrian and Laureline, written by Pierre Christin and illustrated by Jean-Claude Mรฉziรจres. The film stars Dane DeHaan as Valerian and Cara Delevingne as Laureline, with Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, Kris Wu, and Rutger Hauer.
The Valerian and Laureline has won numerous industry awards, including the prestigious Grand Prix de la ville d’Angoulรชme. The series was also adapted into an animated show in 2007, titled Time Jam: Valerian & Laureline.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will open in theaters on July 21, 2017.
