Transformers: The Last Knight has done the best job of any entry in the franchise when it comes to keeping the robot characters actually pushed to the forefront of the marketing. Franchise icons like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee have dominated the marketing for Transformers 5 – but as always, we now have the inevitable promo spots featuring the human cast, their strained attempts at comedy, and the human love story that must be included in every one of these Michael Bay movies.

In Transformers: The Last Knight our primary human character trio consists of the following:

  • Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) – The inventor/tinkerer of the 4th film returns as the primary hero of the 5th film.
  • Viviane Wembly (Laura Haddock) – An Oxford Professor of English Lit, whose knowledge of history pulls her into the mystery of the Transformers‘ presence on Earth.
  • Sir Edmund Burton (Sir Anthony Hopkins) – an astronomer/historian who has thoroughly studied the history of the Transformers on Earth.

Of course, the film will also have appearances from returning characters like Stanley Tucci’s character from Age of Extinction, Joshua Joyce, as well as franchise military heroes Col. Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and Sgt. Epps (Tyrese Gibson).

In what looks to be the movie’s most eye-roll-worthy subplot, we’ll see Wahlberg and Haddock trading witty barbs as they build a romantic relationship – one based on trademark Bay stereotype humor, this time centered on both gender and US vs UK cultural differences. Should be fun(?).

SYNOPSIS: Transformers: The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci will reprise their roles from Transformers: Age of Extinction. Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro reprise their roles for the first three Transformers movies. The film also stars Isabela Moner, Laura Haddock, Anthony Hopkins, Santiago Cabrera, Liam Garrigan, Jerrod Carmichael, and Mitch Pileggi.
