BioWare started 2017 on the wrong foot with the rocky launch of Mass Effect: Andromeda, but the acclaimed RPG developer isn’t going to let that one stumble slow them down. They’re already on to the next thing, as they just dropped an intriguing 45-second teaser for their much-teased new IP, Anthem.

We begin with a view of a massive, intimidating wall, and hear from a female narrator that it protects the city inside from what lies beyond. We then get a brief glimpse of a monster that seems to be part dinosaur, part gorilla. We then get several shots of somebody in some slick-looking mechanical armor โ is it the woman narrating? It’s hard to say, as the armor obscures the character’s face and gender. Based on this first look, Anthem seems to have elements of both Horizon Zero Dawn and Destiny, which could be an interesting combo.
While this is our first look at Anthem, previously codenamed Dylan, we’ve known of the game’s existence since E3 2014, where BioWare announced, in very vague terms, they were working on a new IP. In recent months, more details have begun to slip, with EA CEO Andrew Wilson having this to say at the publishers latest financial briefing:
“We are very pleased with the progress of our new action IP from BioWare. The design is stunning, gameplay mechanics are excellent and the action will be exhilarating. The game is built around a live service, and through our creative process, we’ve decided to add more to the disruptive new social designs for our players.”
Lot of buzzwords in there, but Anthem certainly sounds ambitious! Unfortunately, we won’t be playing the game for a while โ EA and BioWare also announced the game won’t be coming out until their next fiscal year, which means the game could come out as late as March 2019.
