Even though we’re almost finished with one particular expo this week – the Electronic Entertainment Expo – there’s another one that’s just on the horizon, and it promises some big stuff when it comes to some of Disney’s bigger game franchises.

The D23 expo is set to take place starting Friday, July 14th, and running through Sunday, July 16th, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Los Angeles, California. For three days, the expo will serve as the home for various pieces of Disney programming, including movies, television shows, and, as you might expect, video games.
Although it’s likely that Star Wars: Battlefront II will be playable at the expo all weekend long, in the form of a multiplayer set-up similar to the one we saw at EA Play this past week, there will be a special video game showcase that will take place on Saturday, July 15th at 1 PM in the D23 Expo Arena.
Titled Level Up! The Walt Disney Company’s Video Game Showcase, it will serve as a home base for new footage from not only Battlefront II, but also Kingdom Hearts III, the long-awaited follow-up to the popular Square/Disney role-playing series. The teaser trailer that debuted last weekend teased that we’d be seeing more of the game in action at D23, and now we know when.
But, more importantly, the D23 Expo may serve as the place that Square Enix reveals first footage from its forthcoming Avengers video game. It was conspicuously absent at E3 this week, so, more than likely, we may see what the company is up to at the show next month.
The description of the show is as follows:
“At the Games showcase, fans will experience never-before-seen gameplay, trailers, special guests, and other unforgettable surprises from across the Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel games portfolios. Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman, DCPI, will kick off the presentation, which will feature many show-stopping moments including announcements from Marvel, and more information about highly anticipated games, including Star Wars Battlefront II from Electronic Arts, KINGDOM HEARTS III from Disney and Square Enix, and more.”
There is one title that’s missing from the line-up – Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite from Capcom. There’s a good chance we’ll see it to some extent, since it does feature Marvel characters, but it’s kind of strange that it didn’t get mentioned in the description. We could see Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 to some extent as well, even if it’s a WB title. (It’s still Marvel.)
We’ll see what happens when the show takes place next month. We’ll have full coverage as it happens!
