Sony has both a new Spider-Man movie and PlayStation 4 game on the way, but in many ways they’re fairly different takes on the classic superhero. Spider-Man: Homecoming tells the story of a very young Peter Parker, who benefits from the support and mentorship of Tony Stark and the Avengers. Meanwhile, Spider-Man on PS4 is about a more mature, self-reliant wall crawler.

Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games recently dropped a bevy of new plot details, which should excite some fans (everybody has their own opinions about what take on Spidey is best). According to Insomniac, their Spider-Man is no kid โ€“ this guy has been around, and knows his stuff.

We also get some detail about the Inner Demons gang Spider-Man fights in the recent E3 2017 trailerโ€ฆ

โ€ฆas well as supervillain Mister Negative (aka Martin Li) and good ol’ Aunt May. Seems she’s pretty involved in charity work, which could mean we’re getting the version of May seen in recent comic books, rather than the hot mama Marisa Tomei movie take.

Oh, and Peter Parker makes all his own Spidey tech. No gifts from Stark Industries in this universe!

In a reply to a fan, Insomniac also confirmed there will be a romantic angle to Spider-Man. A complicated relationship, huh? I’m guessing it’s the ghost of Gwen Stacy โ€“ that would be very complicated!

In a separate interview with the Daily Star, Insomniac also revealed Spider-Man will have a night/day system, and randomized weather. I’m liking everything I’m hearing! I’m definitely glad Insomniac is being given the freedom to create their own world, and, personally, I’ve always been a bigger fan of a mature Peter Parker.

Spider-Man swings onto PS4 sometime within the first half of 2018.
