Wonder Woman has hit the $400.5 million mark as of yesterday, which means by the end of today it will surpass Disney’s juggernaut Frozen in domestic box office (via Forbes). Frozen grossed $400,738,009 million domestically, so Wonder Woman will probably leave a bigger gap before it completely exits theaters.
Frozen was 26th on the all-time domestic box office list, so Wonder Woman will overtake that spot. Now, worldwide is a different story of course, as Frozen brought in over $1.2 billion worldwide. Wonder Woman is currently in the $795 million area, with a pretty even split between domestic and overseas. Frozen did over twice its domestic numbers overseas to hit that lofty total.
As for Wonder Woman’s place on the all-time list, it can still overtake a few more films before it leaves for home video. The two most possible feats are Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and the original Jurassic Park. Transformers sits at $402,111,870 million, while Jurassic Park sits at $402,453,882 million. The film doesn’t hit digital release until August 29th, so it still has just under three weeks to close the gap.
As for films with a female lead, it puts it only behind The Hunger Games ($408 million), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($424 million), Finding Dory ($486 million), Beauty and the Beast ($504 million), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ($532 million), Jurassic World ($652 million), Titanic ($658 million), and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936 million).
Wonder Woman currently enjoys an 84.64 on ComicBook.com’s composite ranking. Wonder Woman hits digital release on August 29th and Blu-ray/DVD on September 19th.
