Today is a historic day. Today, we finally get to read what could have been in the closing episode of Half-Life. A former Half-Life writer has posted a full synopsis of Half-Life Episode 3 (I’m going to call it Half-Life 3) which on one hand is nice, but on the other hand, it indicates that Half-Life 3 may never actually happen. There’s always a chance that this is just one version of the story, and a true Half-Life 3 could still be on the way, but we’re not holding our breath.

The synopsis is long. It’s really, really long. It’s going to take you a few minutes to get through it, and there’s no way that we can post the whole thing here. I do first apologize for the wait, and that done, hasten to finally explain (albeit briefly, quickly, and in very little detail) events following those described in my previous game (referred to herewith as Episode 2). “

You can find the following eleven paragraphs in their entirety right here. The whole thing concludes with “Yours in infinite finality, Gordon Freeman, Ph.D.” And now we’re left feeling somewhat hollow; numb and cold, and not fulfilled. This was a story that deserved to be told, but instead, we’re getting a new DOTA card game. What happened to you, Valve? What happened…
