New ‘Black Panther’ Character Posters Released

Marvel’s Black Panther is one of the most highly-anticipated films of 2018, and one of the most exciting new prospects in the current slate of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In addition to the impressive trailers (see above), we’re now getting a slew of new Black Panther posters, highlighting the individual characters of the film.

Black Panther / T’Challa

The Marvel hero and new king of Wakanda must return home to reclaim his throne, and open his isolated kingdom up to the larger world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s once again played by Chadwick Boseman, who made his debut in Captain America: Civil War.

Ramonda

Oscar-nominee Angela Bassett plays T’Challa’s mother and adviser, helping the young king follow in his father’s footsteps. 

Okoye

The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira plays Okoye, a proud Wakandan traditionalist and head of the Dora Milaje, an elite group of female warriors. 

Shuri

Humans actress Letitia Wright plays Shuri, T’Challa’s sister and princess of Wakanda, who is a tech savvy inventor. In the comics, Shuri eventually graduates to being the first female Black Panther. 

Nakia

Oscar-winner Lupita Nyon’o is Nakia, a former lover of T’Challa and the Dora Milaje’s cunning undercover operative, sent out into the world to keep an eye on things. 

W’Kabi

Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya plays this friend and confidant of T’Challa. W’Kabi leads the border tribe as Wakanda’s first line of defense. 

Zuri

Forest Whitaker plays this elder of Wakanda, who is a religious and spiritual leader, as well as a statesman. Zuri is the keeper of the special herb that gives Black Panther his power, and helped T’Challa’s father T’Chaka on his own rite of passage. 

Everett K. Ross

The Hobbit star Martin Freeman reprises his role from Captain America: Civil War, as a member of the Joint Counter Terrorism Center. Upon aprehending Ulysses Klaue, Ross learns there is much more to Wakanda than anyone ever imagined.

M’Baku

Person of Interest star Winston Duke plays M’Baku (formerly “Man-Ape), leader of Wakanda’s mountain tribe The Jabari. M’Baku’s people are a religious minority (they worship the gorilla gods instead of the panther god) who protest the crowning of T’Challa. A perfect sect of disenfranchised people to be swayed against the throne…

Erik Killmonger

Michael B. Jordan re-teams with his Creed director Ryan Coogler for Black Panther. Jordan plays the villain Erik Killmonger, a militant Wakandan exile, who wants to overthrow T’Challa. To further his own political ends, Killmonger teams up with smuggler Ulysses Klaue to launch a plan for disrupting Wakanda. 

Ulysses Klaue

Andy Serkis reprises his Avengers: Age of Ultron villain, a black-market smuggler who infiltrated Wakana to steal its precious rare ore, Vibranium. Klaue returns to Wakanda working alongside Erik Killmonger, with the hand he lost to Ultron replaced by Wakandan tech, in the form of a sonic disruptor. 

Thor: Ragnarok is now in theaters.
