When it comes to anime, it seems like the name of the game is over-saturation. The medium has becoming an increasingly popular one over the years, and studios have been all too happy to crank out series after series. Today, there are thousands of shows out there to suit every fan, but it can be difficult to suss through slogs of irrelevant shows.

For Hunter x Hunter fans, the plight can be a particularly difficult one. The acclaimed shonen series is an outlier of its genre as it tips its hat more towards grand journeys than back-breaking battles. Hunter x Hunter is more preoccupied with following hero Gon Freecss as he works to become a professional hunter in order to reunite with his estranged father. With child protagonists and a string of eccentric side characters, finding an anime to fit Hunter x Hunter fans is difficult. But no – it’s not impossible.
Here at ComicBook.com, we’ve done the work for you and come up with a list of five anime series Hunter x Hunter fans are bound to love.
Yuu Yuu Hakusho
First, there’s Yuu Yuu Hakusho. The two series may not be similar thematically, but the pair are closely linked in style and aesthetic. After all, the creator of Hunter x Hunter was the man behind Yuu Yuu Hakusho; There is bound to be crossover.
Yuu Yuu Hakusho dips into the supernatural as the anime tells the story of a teenager named Yusuke Urameshi. The rough kid once saved the life of a young boy, sacrificing his life to do so. However, without a place in either heaven or hell to rest, Yusuke is tasked with becoming an detective for the underworld.

The duo are trained in the art of alchemy, but they take the practice too far as children. After crippling themselves, the pair traverse the country and become state alchemist whilst they search for a magical object known as the Philosopher’s Stone. But, along the way, the pair become embroiled in a government conspiracy that threatens the world.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
For anime fans looking to binge, you will find a comfy friend in Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic. Like Hunter x Hunter, the anime is filled with mystical storylines and action-packed fights. And, most importantly, the leads of Magi are as every bit as entertaining as Gon tends to be.
