The intergalactic real estate snob stands as the de facto villain for most fans. From his shrill laughter to his complete lack of remorse, Freeza murdered millions on his quest to claim planets around Universe 7. When the baddie finally set his sights on Earth, Freeza was introduced to Goku and his gang of Z-Fighters who weren’t about to let the egotistic alien take their land.

But, boy – Freeza sure put up a fight for it.

For many Dragon Ball fans, Freeza is an easy character to dislike, but he also garners unwilling respect. The despotic villain was the catalyst for much of the anime‘s plot twists as he led to the Saiyan’s genocide and even Krillin’s death.

Here at ComicBook, we are looking past the villain’s popular points of conversation to bring you a slew of little-known facts. So, if you ever wanted to know a bit more about the insane villain, you can find out five facts about him in the following slides.

Freeza Was Inspired By An Economic Crisis

Freeza has a lot of land – like, a lot. Even though he’s dead for most of Dragon Ball, the evil emperor was able to accrue at least 80 planets during his lifetimes. While Freeza was quick to turn his land around for profit, his desire for more land grew as he continued to kill natives who dared stand in his way. Clearly, Freeza is not rationale or kind when it comes to displacing millions, and the creator of Dragon Ball has said he got the idea of Freeza from Japan’s housing crisis. In the 1980s, the country underwent a speculator’s bubble which popped, leading to a tough recession.

Freeza Is Dragon Ballโ€™s Most Defeated Villain

Despite being an insanely strong villain, Freeza just can’t seem to get one over Goku. The baddie has split plenty of Z-Fighter blood, but he ultimately winds up waving a white flag in front of the Saiyan’s posse. To date, Freeza is the most defeated villain in the anime’s history as he is continually revived, reborn, or even hallucinated by his opponents. So far, Freeza has been beat down at least six times by heroes like Goku and Future Trunks in various series or films.

Freeza Eventually Reached A State Comparable To Super Saiyan

When Freeza was first introduced to fans, the alien was known for his supreme strength. The had not trained a day in his life and was able to give Goku and Vegeta thorough beatings. So, when Freeza finally decided to get a workout regime going, the alien was able to enter a never-before-seen state. In the movie Dragon Ball: Resurrection ‘F,’ fans wathced as Freeza was revived by the Dragon Balls for another fight. After training for a bit, Freeza is able to enter a new form aptly known as ‘Golden Freeza’ since the coloring is meant to mock Super Saiyans and their glowing hair.

Freeza Originally Killed Cargo & Other Censorship Blips

Dragon Ball is famous for its censoring in the U.S., and Freeza was no exception. The supremely devious character had gore and other violent actions stripped from him in the anime. For instance, the Dragon Ball manga saw Freeza murder the young Namekian Cargo who is hit by the villain’s death beam. However, in the anime, the culprit was changed to Dodoria. Then, in the U.S., a scene featuring the villain was also scrubbed from television. So, if you have never seen Freeza sadistically eat a live crab whole for the hell of it, then you now know why.

Freeza Fought Goku For Nearly 20 Episodes

There’s no denying that Freeza and Goku have a long, fraught history together. The pair are the definition of enemies as the latter continually tried to defeat Freeza for the fun of it. And, you know, to save the universe as well. For fans of Dragon Ball Z, they will be very familiar with the duo’s final showdown on the planet Namek. The intense fight is regarded as a high-point for the franchise and features adrenaline-filled action. However, it is also known for something else: being really, really long. The epic fight between Freeza and Goku lasted a whopping 19 episodes and takes about 3.5 hours to binge. Ouch.
