When it comes to Attack on Titan, the show’s female characters cannot be beat. It is pretty hard to usurp anyone with Mikasa’s reputation, but other soldiers like Krista, Annie, Sasha, and Ymir have tried to battle for the series’ top spot. Still, Mikasa should be grateful that the creator of Attack on Titan ensured Eren Yeager was a boy. Hajime Isayama just revealed designs for how the hero would look if he were a woman, and the picture may be enough to convert some fans.

Over on Isayama’s blog, a picture of a female Eren was uploaded for fans to gawk over. In many ways, Eren still looks totally recognizable despite being given a new gender. The character has a sizable bust and hip, but Eren’s lithe body still looks toned given his (hers?) work with the Survey Corps. Fem!Eren is also shown with long hair that is curled into a bun, but her long bangs are allowed to frame her face.
Aside from a taped jawline, much of Eren’s facial features remain the same. Even the regular design for Eren gives the character doe-like eyes; Fem!Eren may just have a few more eyelashes if anything.
Fans of Attack on Titan will no doubt find this official design curious. Manga readers have already noted how much Fem!Eren looks like Gabi, the younger sister of Reiner Braun. In the past, Isayama has confessed many of his characters share similar design features. And, for other fans, the picture will surely be a bit confusing. Even when genderbent, Eren looks cute, and this design will likely inspire a new generation of explorative fan-fiction tropes for the anime fandom.
Hopefully, Isayama knows what kind of madness he unleashed by sharing this photo…
