Berserk’s Latest Might Have Guts Undergo a Terrifying Transformation

The Black Swordsman has been having a tough time in Berserk, which isn’t anything new, but Guts’ time in recent chapters might be one of his bleakest series of events in the franchise. With the recent release of Chapter 383, the anime protagonist has been exiled by the Eastern Empire known as Kushan to a mysterious cave that is the very definition of foreboding. While the recent installment of the series from writer Kouji Mori and the artists at Studio Gaga might not be action-packed, it hints at a transformation for Guts that might be akin to the nefarious Eclipse.

Warning. If you have yet to read the latest manga chapter of Berserk, Chapter 383, be forewarned that we’ll be diving into serious spoiler territory. Ever since the tragic passing of Berserk creator Kentaro Miura, Guts has been almost catatonic thanks to the kidnapping of Casca and the destruction of Elfhelm. Placed into the cave with no resistance whatsoever, the Kushan citizens known as Daiba and Silat discuss what lies in wait for the Black Swordsman. Daiba explains, “That is a peculiar site. Its inside and outside are strongly disconnected, even my arts cannot easily piece that veil. Of course, within is a void. What madness might its darkness bring forth? In darkness without sight, without sound, there is but one thing to do. There is naught to gaze into, but the self.”

Guts’ Ascension

Young Animal

As Guts has hallucinations of his past, seeing Griffith and Casca in better times, the Black Swordman imagines himself sinking into a sea of his own creation. In a scene that harkens back to Berserk’s Eclipse, the anime star drifts into what appears to be a giant clam, and our chapter ends in a series of events that mimic Griffith becoming the Godhand member known as Femto. While we doubt this mysterious change will see Guts joining the likes of Void and Slan, it might be a transformation that finally breaks the Dragon Slayer wielder out of his funk.

For quite some time, many Berserk fans have wondered how on Earth Guts will be able to strike against Femto and his god-like allies. The Godhand has long been a force of nature that has been the source of the demonic Apostles infiltrating the world. To date, none of the members has been injured, though Guts has received power-ups that might eventually change this fact. While not currently wearing the Berserker armor, the Black Swordsman will routinely sport the suit and take down bigger-than-life threats. Unfortunately, even with the manga still going strong, an anime adaptation has yet to be confirmed, which will further flesh out the Band of the Hawk, and Chapter 384’s release date remains a mystery.
