Following the announcement last month of the return of both the anime and manga of the Berserk franchise, we finally get an official release date for both. The anime has been scheduled to release on April 7th, but it looks like we will be getting the new manga before then. In an early look at the new March issue of the Young Animal monthly magazine, we see that Berserk will finally be returning. The new issue featuring the legendary franchise’s return will hit homes on March 24th.

The tweet above reads, “The next issue from the Berserk series resumes this month!” We not only got the date of the release, but also some previews of what is to come in the new issue (seen below).
Bereserk was first serialized by Young Animal in 1992 and has been running since then (with some short breaks). The brutal and sometimes extreme manga has a has a huge fan base not only in Japan but also in the United States because of Dark Horse Comics translating it and releasing it in volumes.
Not only will there be a new manga series, but also a new second sesason of the anime coming this year as well.
The original anime adaptation first released in 1997 as 25-episodes. The first series began with the Black Swordsman arc, and went through the Golden Age arc. It mainly followed the storyline laid out in the manga, but there was modifications to some of the most violent and brutal scenes, and character deaths. In 2012 there were two films released in Japan, with the third being released in 2013. The movies essentially retold the 1997 TV series. The newest second series came out in 2016 and received flack for using animated CGI rather than traditional animated style. The 2016 series followed the Conviction story arc.
If you are unfamiliar with the story of the franchise, Crunchyroll describes the series below:
“Spurred by the flame raging in his heart, the Black Swordsman Guts continues his seemingly endless quest for revenge. Standing in his path are heinous outlaws, delusional evil spirits, and a devout child of god.Even as it chips away at his life, Guts continues to fight his enemies, who wield repulsive and inhuman power, with nary but his body and swordโhis strength as a human. What lies at the end of his travels? The answer is shrouded in the “night.” Strain your eyes and stare into the dark!”
