Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has done a lot right by Naruto fans, and its latest episode only further proved that fact. The anime debuted its 18th episode earlier today, but the release might have looked familiar to some viewers. After all, the episode was sourced directly from a fan-favorite OVA.

Boruto‘s latest episode was based on a popular Naruto OVA that debuted back in July 2016. “The Day Naruto Became Hokage” was included in the limited-edition release of Boruto: Naruto the Movie, and it told the bite-sized story of Naruto’s inauguration.

Much like Boruto‘s episode, the OVA starts off simply enough as it shows a normal morning in the Uzumaki household. Hinata sends Boruto and Himawari to wake their father up, but Naruto slumbers on until his son full-body tackles him. Hinata has to leave to pick up her husband’s Hokage cloak, leaving Naruto to prepare his children for the ceremony, but things do not go as planned.

Before the trio can leave, Himawari and Boruto squabble as the girl wants to bring a stuffed doll to Naruto’s inauguration. The two tug over the animal causing it to rip, and Himawari becomes so upset she awakens her Byakugan for the first time. The girl tries to attack Boruto for his slight, but this causes Naruto panic. He tries to intervene but winds up getting his own chakra points sealed by Himawari, leaving him unconscious.

As such, Naruto winds up missing his inauguration, but the entire ceremony is not a waste. Kakashi tells Konohamaru to henge into Naruto for the event while Sakura and Iruka send their praises to the boy. Back at home, Hinata rushes to see what kept Naruto up only to find him unconscious. And, back in Boruto’s room, the poor boy is left to hide from Himawari as the girl’s Byakugan allows her to find him easily.
