Many fans might not know this but it turns out Death Note has its own canon epilogue, which is also known as Death Note‘s One-Shot Special. The special is a manga epilogue and is also known as chapter 109, which was published two years after the end of the manga series.

The story takes place three years after the Kira case is resolved, with Near being shown as the new L- the third chronologically. In addition, a new Kira emerges who has also gained the Death Note from the Shinigami. The Shinigami has received an additional Death Note from the Shinigami King, as a reward from bringing him thirteen apples from the human world. This new Kira began killing elderly people in order to relieve them from their pain.
It all looked as if the story was starting again, however, L decided that this new Kira was just a killer without a purpose and labeled that Kira as “C-Kira,” which stood for “Cheap Kira.” In addition, L said that he wasn’t interested in the case, as this was not the real Kira to him. As a result, the C-Kira then wrote his own name in the Death Note. This is a must-read for all Death Note fans, as this is a canon brief continuation of the story.
This epilogue was inspired from the original manga, which was released in Weekly Shonen Jumps from 2003-2005. The manga written by Tsugumi Ohba had 12 volumes and inspired an animated television series, several video games, an animated film, a novel and most recently another live-action adaptation. The live-action film was released on Netflix earlier this year and had a mixed reaction from the Death Note fan base. In the past, there were a number of other Death Note live-action adaptations as well, which included a musical in 2015.
