Earlier this year, otakus learned Dragon Ball Super would embark on a new arc once its ‘Future Trunks’ saga ended. The ‘Universal Survival’ storyline debuted back in February, and fans lost it earlier this summer when news broke that Goku would get a new transform in the arc. And, now, some terrifying details about the hero’s form have come to light.
Earlier today, Weekly Shonen Jump saw its most recent issue hit shelves, and the magazine included a spread about Dragon Ball Super. The publication shed new light on Goku’s mysterious transformation, and fans like Todd Blankenship translated the Japanese update into English.
“What does this new back say?!” the Dragon Ball Super spread reads. “Goku’s tense back โ this new visual signifies that something terrible is going to happen!! Don’t miss a second.”
Blankenship commented on the translation, giving fans a bit of clarification about the form’s ‘terrible’ roots. The translator explained the ‘terrible’ translation can mean ‘unexpected’ or ‘impossible,’ but it has a negative connotation in almost any setting.
“With that in mind, translating it as “one hell of a thing is going to happen” might strike the right mix of vagueness and impressiveness,” Blankenship explained.

Thanks to Weekly Shonen Jump, fans are already speculating how Goku will come by his new transformation. The Saiyan’s new form is an intimidating one as he sees his Gi ripped and dark hair styled as if Goku were going Super Saiyan. If Goku is pushed into releasing a brand-new form, it may be because the hero winds up being Universe 7’s last line of defense at the Tournament of Power. With a whole universe on his shoulders, Goku would be forced to give it his all against fighters like Jiren, and that may require the Saiyan to release a power he’s never tapped into before.
