If you thought Dragon Ball Super was done giving Goku power-ups, then you better think again. The shonen anime is knee-deep in its current ‘Universal Survival’ arc, and the stakes for Goku have never been higher. With the fate of Universe 7 resting on his shoulders, it seems like the Saiyan may be gearing up to reveal a new transformation.

Over on Twitter, the official Dragon Ball Super account just shared one stunning poster of Goku with fans. The folks at Toei Animation released a new key visual for Dragon Ball Super to commemorate the start of the Tournament of Power. The image, which can be seen below, shows Goku in a way fans haven’t seen him before.
With his backing face to fans, Goku is show with his Gi torn to shreds. The rip exposes the Saiyan’s muscular back, but it is the hero’s hair that is stirring attention. Goku is seen with jet-black hair that is spiked up as if he were going Super Saiyan, but the style and colors just don’t match. When paired with the poster’s foreboding color scheme, fans seem to think Goku is hinting at a new transformation here.
There’s always a chance Akira Toriyama may use the Tournament of Power to bring out a new Super Saiyan form, but fans are hoping the look nods to something else. After all, Future Trunks and Kale recently acquired their own unique Super Saiyan forms. Instead, fans are buzzing about whether or not this new look may be associated with Goku and his God Ki.

Goku gained the ability to tap into Super Saiyan God energy in Dragon Ball Super, and he has continued to train in the form. During the ‘Universal Survival’ arc thus far, Goku has all but lived in the state as he fought in exhibition matches and more. With SSG and Super Saiyan Blue under his belt, Goku may unlock a new form during the Tournament of Power which further hones his God Ki. So, in a way, Goku may soon get his own Mystic Form like Gohan did back in Dragon Ball Z.
For now, fans can only wait and see how the Tournament of Power progresses, but this new visual has got the fandom buzzing once again. Whether the visual is meant to tease a Mystic Form or insane Kaio-Ken, that remains to be seen. So, until the day comes where Goku shows off his newfound power, fans will just enjoy this truly badass poster from afar.

Dragon Ball Super‘s “Universal Survival” saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami airs the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
