Fans Are Split Over The First Trailer Of Godzilla’s Anime Movie

Earlier today, the first trailer for Netflix’s new Godzilla project hit the Internet, and fans are still reeling from the release. Godzilla: Monster Planet is expecting to debut in just a couple of months, so fans of the kaiju have been excited to see how its anime is shaping up. But, when it comes down to it, Godzilla diehards can’t seem to agree on whether they love or hate the new footage.

As you can see above, the trailer for Godzilla: Monster Planet gives fans a look at the film’s unique CGI style. The artwork for the entire movie was done using CG, but the choice is not a widely accepted one. In recent years, the anime industry has pushed towards CG-heavy artwork, but the animation’s quality has not lived up to promise. Low frame-rates and stilted animation have turned several CG anime series like Berserk and Blame into laughing stocks within the otaku fandom.

Despite its stunning concept art, the animation for Godzilla: Monster Planet did not impress many in practicality. The shadowy footage makes it difficult to see what all is happening, and the trailer’s low resolution does not help. The trailer at least gives fans a shot of Godzilla in the wild, but there is no accompanying roar to signal the monster’s appearance.

Godzilla has been around for decades, but the monster is only just getting an anime in 2017. There’s plenty of pressure to welcome the kaiju with austerity, but fans can’t help but be nervous.

The staff behind Godzilla: Monster Planet isn’t one to be trifled with. Kabun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita will co-direct the feature. Gen Urobuchi came up with the story idea and script, so fans should expect a bit of Psycho-Pass to feed its way into this anime.

The anime fandom is fiercely protective of its industry, so there’s bound to be fans who feel over-protective about Godzilla’s entrance. A live-action anime adaptation is always suspect to criticism, and a live-action series getting an anime adaptation works much the same way.

When it comes down to it, some fans can’t help but feel let down by Godzilla‘s trailer. The shoddy lighting and abrupt transitions were a bit headache inducing. Fans didn’t even get to hear Godzilla roar!

If there’s one thing Godzilla: Monster Planet will get right, it is the size of the monster. The trailer’s brief shot of Gdozilla saw the kaiju looking massive, and he might be sporting some insane canines to boot!

The last summer of the 20th Century. That day, the human beings learn that they are not the only ruler of the planet Earth.The appearance of the giant living creatures “Kaiju’s” and the ultimate existence that destroys all monsters: Godzilla. Through the battle against kaiju’s that lasted for half a century, human beings has experienced continuous defeat, and finally plans to escape from the Earth. And in 2048, only those who were selected by the A.I. managed under the central government boarded the inter-sidereal emigrant spaceship “Aratrum” to head for “Tau Cetus e”, the planet beyond the distance of 11.9 light-year. However, the environmental condition differences between that of the Earth and Tau e, which they finally arrived after 20 years were far beyond the predicted numbers, and was not an environment considered to be habitable by human beings.

The young man on the emigrant ship: Haruo, who saw his parents killed by Godzilla in front of his eyes when he was 4 years old, had only one thing in his mind for 20 years: to return to the Earth and defeat Godzilla. Shut out from the possibility of emigration, as the living environment in the ship deteriorates, the group of “Earth Returnists” led by Haruo became the majority, and determines to head back to Earth through a dangerous long-distance hyperspace navigation. However, the Earth they have returned has already passed the time of 20,000 years, and has become an unknown world with the ecosystem reigned by Godzilla.

At the end, will human beings win back the Earth? And what will Haruo see beyond his fate?
