If you think it is hard trying to pick a favorite Dragon Ball Z character, just try to single out the show’s worst warrior. Akira Toriyama fleshed out dozens of characters during his days as an artist, but the series creator didn’t always back up his sketches with substance.

Heroes like Future Trunks may reign supreme when it comes to Dragon Ball Z characters, but there are others who fall flat. New and old fans have come to target several specific fighters for an assortment of reasons. Some of Toriyama’s characters simply come off too whiny whilst others are more cocky than comfortable. Poor characterization and lackluster plot lines have also turned a few Dragon Ball Z characters into on-going jokes, and ComicBook is ready to count down the worst offenders.

You can sample just some of Dragon Ball Z‘s most frustrating fighters in the slides below, but be warned! The list will surely send some fans into a rage which only Broly can match.

Goku

You might be wondering how Goku made his way onto this list. The character may be Earth’s go-to defender in times of trouble, but that doesn’t change the fact that Goku is also the worst at times.

When fans first met Goku, the young boy was the definition of curious. The martial artist trained under Master Roshi with his rival-turned-friend Krillin, and Goku matured into an adult with some sense of responsibility. Chi-Chi may have bemoaned her husband’s innate desire to fight, but Goku had his head on enough to sacrifice his life when his son Gohan was threatened by Raditz. However, in subsequent arcs, fans began to get annoyed with Goku as his priorities shifted.

Goku went from being a protective father to an all-out adrenaline addict. The Saiyan continued to fight out of pure-hearted reasons, but his desire to battle others led him to make bad choices; He even letย Majin Buuย awaken to see how strong the alien would be. Recently, Gokuย came under fire for recklessly inciting the multivere’s Omni-King to create a martial arts tournament which could end in Universe 7’s annihilation.ย Goku is foolhardy enough to make the most patient fans angry, but he always seems to turn his wrongs around at the last minute. Audiences always begrudgingly forgive the muscle-head, but that doesn’t excuse the turmoil Gokuย puts them through.ย

Majin Buu

There’s no doubt about it: Majin Buu is as terrifying in Dragon Ball Z as he is just terrible. Him being the anime’s final villain letdown plenty of fans, and audiences continue to bemoan what could have been even after all these years.

Majin Buu’s greatest offense isn’t his power levels or surprisingly sweet attacks. No, the villain suffers most from his undeveloped characterization.ย Dragon Ball Z copped out when it made Buu evil for no reason. Freeza and Cell may not have had great reasons to be despots, but they at least did have a reason. Ultimately, Buu was evil for the sake of it.

Mr. Satan

If you have ever wanted to meet Dragon Ball Z‘s most obnoxious character, then all you need to do is call out for Mr. Satan. The martial artist is vain enough that he will hear you from a mile away at the very least.

Fans first met Mr. Satan during Dragon Ball Z, and they were initially interested inย the afro-haired man. The fighter was said to be the Protector of Earth, but Goku’s crew quickly how bogus the man really was. Despite being Videl’s father, Mr. Satan was characterized by his total lack of bravery. The cowardly fighter used cheats and tricks to put others down, and his boisterous attitude grated on fans.

At his core, Mr. Satan is actually a loving father and caring person – but his gags never quit. Fans grew tired of the fighter’s back-and-forth behavior, and the man still hasn’t change now that Dragon Ball Super is into swing.

Adult Gohan

There are few characters in Dragon Ball who have as much potential as Gohan. So, it is unfortunate that there are no characters in the franchise who squandered their potential like the hero.

In Dragon Ball Z, fans watched as Gohan underwent a stunning transformation. The half-Saiyan went from being a crybaby to a full-fledged warrior thanks to the likes of Piccolo and Goku. Gohan was only able to muster up his incredible strength during moments of crisis, but the warrior gradually gained control of his strength. By the time Cell came into view, Gohan had improved so much that he became the first person to go Super Saiyan 2 and even annihilated Cell.

Sadly, that was where Gohan plateaued. When Gohan finally aged into an adult, the fighter ditched his complex story lines in favor of becoming a gag-centric superhero known as the Great Saiyaman. Fans have hoped Gohan might turn it around when he tapped into his Ultimate Form against Buu, but the hope was little more than just that.
