The first teaser trailer for Netflix‘s Death Note adaptation was released online this morning, and the Internet has been having quite the field day.

The live-action movie looks drastically different from the anime – in more ways than one – and fans around the world are finding things to fuss about.

From the casting, to the style, most people seem to be incredibly unhappy with what the film is doing.

Some do think the new film looks great, and can’t wait to see it, but they’re in the minority here. Those who hated the new footage have come out of the woodwork, and they are not letting up.

Good News First

The positive responses to the new teaser were honestly few and far between. Many people ragged on the new movie for its casting of white actors, but there are some who seem pretty pumped about it.

 

People Are Not Happy

Aside from a few positive fans, most were overwhelmingly negative. Almost every tweet regarding the new trailer sees a fan in some kind of outrage.

 

It Only Gets Worse

Seriously, the tweets go from bad, to worse. There is LOADS of hate online for this new trailer. 

 

White-Washing

Despite the fact that the movie adaptation is a re-imagining of the story – set in Seattle and starring a black man as one of the leads – everyone is jumping back into the whiat-washing controversy once again.

 

But, Willem Dafoe

Let’s not forget, there is a silver lining to all of this. No matter how you feel about the new film. Willem Dafoe is voicing Ryuk – and that’s something worth celebrating.
