The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise has had some serious longevity, as the anime franchise has been able to march forward by exploring new worlds, alternate realities, and countless storylines. One of the most popular storylines has been Iron-Blooded Orphans, the 2015 series that focused on a collection of orphans attempting to survive a battlefield fit to the brim with mechs. Luckily, the collection of young soldiers known as Tekkadan has a representative named Mikazuki Augus, who comes into possession of a Gundam suit. To help celebrate the tenth anniversary, the Mobile Suit Gundam series has quite a few surprises for mech fans, including a brand new anime.

On October 31st this year, fans won’t just be celebrating Halloween in Japan, but Iron-Blooded Orphans will be returning to theaters with a previous special, along with a new short film. A special edition of Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans Urdr-Hunt “Path of The Little Challenger” will arrive in theaters, with a new short film, “Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans 10th Anniversary Short Film ‘Wedge of Interposition’” joining the event. While this theatrical event has yet to be confirmed for North American theaters, a new trailer has been released for the tenth anniversary silver screen celebration that you can check out below.
The Iron-Blooded Orphans Return

On top of the new anime coming to theaters and the new visual, which you can see above, a tenth anniversary event has been announced to take place beginning in February of next year. Taking place at the Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo, Japan, here’s how the official Gundam website describes the upcoming event, “The finale event for the Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans 10th Anniversary Project has been announced! We will be bringing you a stage where you can fully enjoy the world of the series, including talks by the cast and live dubbing. Please come and enjoy this Iron-Blooded Orphans 10th Anniversary celebration, which is filled with gratitude to everyone.”
As of the writing of this article, an official sequel to Iron-Blooded Orphans has yet to be announced for the anime world, though Gundam has seen big success in returning to previous universes. One of the biggest examples was the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed franchise, which helped to spawn the biggest movie of the anime franchise. Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom is, to date, the most profitable movie of the anime franchise and goes to show how fans are more than willing to revisit old mech stories.
If you haven’t had the chance to check out Iron-Blooded Orphans, the fifty-episode-long series is well worth checking out. Even though Mikazuki’s tale might not take place in the original universe, this new reality made good use of the mech backdrop. Luckily, the series is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll if you want to ring in the show’s tenth anniversary.
