Super hero fans get ready because there are going to be more ways to watch the new season of My Hero Academia. Funimation announced that the new season will be simulcast with English subtitles in the U.S. on both Hulu and Crunchyroll. However the Simuldub (English dubbed simulcast) will be exclusive to Funimation’s on streaming service FunimationNow. So the subbed simulcast will be exclusive to Hulu and Crunchyroll, while the dubbed simulcast will be exclusive to Funimation. Both of the simulcast will launch on the same day the episodes are first broadcast in Japan.
The CEO and founder of Funimation, Gen Fukunaga, commented on the new partnership over My Hero Academia,
“We’re pleased to partner with both Hulu and Crunchyroll to bring ‘My Hero Academia’ Season 2 to both their streaming services.” “We look forward to launching the new season with them alongside FunimatonNow during the simultaneous premiere with Japan on April 1.”
Mike DuBoise, the COO of Funimation also commented on the partnership,
“We’re excited to make ‘My Hero Academia’ Season 2 accessible to more and more anime fans through this partnership with Crunchyroll and Hulu, fans can look forward to another great season of ‘My Hero Academia beginning April 1.’”
This news is exciting for anime fans as it could start a standard for the future, making anime simulcast more available for the masses. Instead of companies fighting and hording exclusive streaming rights, maybe there can be more partnerships between the streaming moguls.
If you are unfamiliar with My Hero Academia Funimation has a synopsis of the series below:
Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his lifeโa lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That’s right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered “quirk,” Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that’s not enough to stop him from enrolling in one of the world’s most prestigious hero academies.
My Hero Academia season 2 will premiere and be able to stream on April 1, 2017. Funimation will also be releasing season 1 on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD on April 18, 2017.
