3 One Piece Characters You Didn’t Know Were at God Valley During the Incident

Warning: This article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga! The God Valley Incident is one of the most crucial turning points in One Piece’s history, and the Elbaf Arc is planning to reveal everything about the horrifying day. Although the former Fleet Admiral Sengoku explained the incident in Chapter 957, he conveniently left out the part that the Celestial Dragons held a Native Hunting Competition there to annihilate the island’s citizens, as well as unwanted slaves. Since they weren’t satisfied with simply killing thousands of innocent people, they turned it into a game, put points on their heads, and encouraged the participants with prizes.

The entire ordeal was terrifying and showed the true colors of the World Nobles as well as the high-ranking Marines who protect such people. While Kuma’s backstory in the Egghead Incident Arc only shares a brief glimpse of the incident, the full story is being revealed in the ongoing Elbaf Arc. The incident was supposed to be a trap for Rocks D. Xebec, but the World Government never anticipated that so many powerful characters would show up on the island. Additionally, the Elbaf Arc confirmed that three more crucial characters were also there during the incident.

3) Shakuyaku

Thanks to her beauty and strength, the former Pirate Empress Shakuyaku won the hearts of her friends and foes wherever she went. After falling in love with Rayleigh, she retired from the Kuja Pirates and opened a bar in Hachinosu. Many pirates continued visiting the island just to get a glimpse of her, and things were peaceful for a short while. Unfortunately, just one year before the God Valley Incident, she was kidnapped by the World Government.

Marlon, a member of the Rocks Pirates, tried to protect her but died in the skirmish, while Ochoku, another crew member, was revealed to be a traitor. After being in captivity for a year, she was presented as the grand prize to the winner of the Native Hunting Competition. The Holy Knights of God were captivated by her beauty and competed to make her a slave, especially Saint Figarland Garling, who killed Shanks’ mother after setting his eyes on Shakuyaku. Luckily, Rayleigh and the others saved her from a horrible fate before it was too late.

2) Monkey D. Dragon

At the age of 17, while serving as a Marine rookie, Dragon witnessed hell on Earth, and he was disgusted by the true nature of the World Government. He turned traitor after the Ohara Incident, but now we know that he had been planning to rebel for a long time. After all, someone like him, who valued the lives of innocents, couldn’t just sit down and let the World Nobles continue their tyranny. He couldn’t understand the reason behind trampling on people’s lives and what part of it was entertaining to the World Nobles. However, Dragon knew that he couldn’t stop the tragedy, and any signs of rebellion would mean the end of his entire platoon.

Dragon’s role during the Incident was crucial since he saved Bartholomew Kuma from a Celestial Dragon, despite the risks involved. He also met Shanks’ mother, who was gravely injured, and accepted her request to protect her sons. While Dragon couldn’t save Shamrock from the clutches of Garling, he at least helped Shanks get away. Shanks ended up with the Roger Pirates and turned out to be a much better person than Shamrock. The God Valley Incident served as a major catalyst for his future actions and his journey to becoming the leader of the Revolutionary Army.

1) Marshal D. Teach

Although Shakuyaku and Dragon being at the scene is surprising, the most shocking part of the backstory was Teach’s lineage. Also known as Blackbeard, one of the Yonko, he was only two years old at the time and got mixed up in the skirmish between his father, Rocks D. Xebec, and the World Government. The Marines found out that Rocks’ wife and son were hiding in his homeland and baited him with the Native Hunting Competition.

Before leaving for God Valley, Rocks told Harald that his real name was Davy D. Xebec and that he was a descendant of the legendary pirate Davy Jones. The World Government has done everything to hide the Clan’s existence, while they have survived to this day by hiding in the criminal underworld. Blackbeard was powerless at the time to defend himself, so he was imprisoned along with his mother, trembling in fear. The incident killed his father, just as the World Government planned, and it’s unlikely that his mother survived the incident as well.
