Smiling Friends Reveals Surprising Fate of Season One Character

The Smiling Friends are making a comeback on Adult Swim for their third season on October 5th. With a new trailer highlighting some of the wild, surreal events that are coming Charlie and Pim’s way, a major story beat was revealed that some fans might have missed. While there have been quite a few colorful characters introduced in the Cartoon Network series since its debut, the first episode of the show might have introduced some of its wildest. In the recent footage, you can see that not every character will make it out of the series alive.

Warning. If you don’t want spoilers for Smiling Friends season three, be forewarned that we’ll be touching on spoiler territory. In Smiling Friends’ first-ever episode, Alan finds himself discovering that there is someone living in their company’s walls. Dubbed the “Wall Guy” by Adult Swim fans, the mysterious man was very adamant about not letting Alan see what he is looking at on his computer. In the recent trailer, the “Wall Guy” is revealed to have died behind the walls, with his computer screen now available to be seen by the Smiling Friends. Whether this fact will play a larger role in the third season remains a mystery, but it’s clear the show’s creators are taking their continuity as seriously as the show is hilarious.

Smiling Friends’ Finale

While Smiling Friends has already been confirmed for seasons four and five, this fact doesn’t mean that its creators are planning to continue the show forever. Creators Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel have an end in mind, and earlier this summer, the pair discussed the upcoming series finale. Specifically, Hadel stated, “[Michael Cusack] and I decided very early on we didn’t want the show to overstay its welcome or get stale, and we intend to stick by that. I don’t know how long we’ll go on for, but I’m really proud of what we’ve created and I’m excited for everyone to see what’s in store for this season. [B]ig thanks to our hardworking creative team who work tirelessly to make the show as good as it can be, the network for allowing us to make the show we want to make, and everyone out there for even watching this slop in the first place.”

Cusack added commentary regarding the status of the series and the episodes that will further explore Charlie and Pim’s surreal adventures, “Seeing as we’ve had two seasons to work up to this, we know the characters so much more now. It’s going really well. I’m trying to be careful not to spoil anything, but I won’t because I’m a professional.” With only a few weeks away from Smiling Friends’ return, it will be interesting what other characters face the Grim Reaper.
