When Ghost in the Shell released its first full-length trailer, fans of the anime immediately noticed one thing: the footage borrowed a lot of scenes from the original film. Director Rupert Sanders and his team clearly drew inspiration from Mamoru Oshii's 1995 animated movie. And, now, one dedicated fan has spliced together the new live-action trailer with scenes from the first Ghost in the Shell movie.

Thomas Guinebault cut together the fan-trailer and posted the video to Facebook. The footage is a scene-by-scene recreation of the recent live-action Ghost in the Shell trailer using Oshii's film. Fans can watch as The Major, Batou, and other characters from the franchise mirror their anime counterparts in appearance and action.

If you are not familiar with Ghost in the Shell, then you have time to catch-up. The franchise was created by Masamune Shirow as a complex cyberpunk reimagining of a post-apocalyptic world. Originally a manga, Ghost in the Shell was adapted into an anime film in 1995 and quickly became a cult hit.

The series follows a heroine named Major Motoko Kusanagi, a military op who works for an anti-terrorist organization known as Section 9. She wields some pretty impressive powers because of her cybernetic body. The heroine boasts a stellar reputation amongst her comrades, but The Major soon finds herself challenged when villains begin popping up who specialize in ghost-hacking, the art of remotely hacking into a human's cybernetic body and forcing it to do their will.

Watching Guinebault's video, it is impossible to ignore the similarities between the live-action Ghost in the Shell footage and the original. The two were only further connected when a special video depicting Ghost in the Shell's Shelling Sequence was released. The iconic scene opened the first film back in 1995 and has become well-known by fans. Sanders' version of the scene is remarkably similar to what Oshii directed years ago, and it even features an updated soundtrack by composer Kenji Kawai.

Ghost in the Shell is directed by Rupert Sanders, from a screenplay written by Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss.
