It’s always exciting when Japanese and Western animation recognize each other, and this week Butch Hartman, creator of the classic Nickelodeon shows Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom, tried his hand at anime. Hartman posted a video of himself drawing his favorite anime characters/show in his own style. He drew Saitama from One Punch Man, Goku from Dragon Ball, Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro, and many more all next to his iconic animated characters. Hartman revealed that growing up he loved watching anime, with classic shows like Speed Racer, Kimba The White Lion, and Astro Boy. It seems that Hartman was influenced by his love for anime at a young age as he went on to create amazing animation that has anime like action at times. He also stated that his all time favorite anime character is the bald yellow jumpsuit wearing One Punch Man. He drew Saitama next to the super hero he created the Chrimpson Chin. You can check out One-Punch Man‘s synopsis from Viz Media below:
“Nothing about Saitama passes the eyeball test when it comes to superheroes, from his lifeless expression to his bald head to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking guy has a not-so-average problemโhe just can’t seem to find an opponent strong enough to take on!”
Manga creator ONE began One-Punch Man as a webcomic, which quickly went viral, garnering over 10 million hits. In addition to One-Punch Man, ONE writes and draws the series Mob Psycho 100 and Makai no Ossan.
