The Robotech live-action project seems to be trending in the right direction now that it enlisted some help from Wonder Woman.

Well, not Wonder Woman herself mind you, though that kind of needs to happen right? The live-action Robotech, being handled by Sony, has now brought Wonder Woman co-writer Jason Fuchs to write the screenplay. Fuchs co-wrote Wonder Woman alongside Zack Snyder and Allan Heinberg, and will essentially be starting from scratch on Robotech with director Andy Muschietti.

Robotech has undergone a few changes in creative teams over the years, with a live-action project announced back in 2007. That version would have starred Toby Maguire, with a script written by Lawrence Kasdan, though it never came to fruition. In 2015, the studio brought on Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton to produce alongside Michael Gordon who would write the script, but never seemed to land on a director. They did seek out James Wan, but that never moved forward.

Now Sony is moving Robotech into the high-priority lane, and a little Wonder Woman magic could be just the thing to help it actually cross the finish line. Canton and Nunnari are also still on board as producers.

Robotech is the story of an Earth defending itself from an alien invasion. To do that they use the technology they salvaged from an alien spacecraft that landed in the south pacific, building large robots to fight off their would-be conquerors. The film will be based on the beloved television series, itself based on adaptations of three different anime series titled The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada.

As for Fuchs, he is also currently working on Minecraft: The Movie and Luna Park, and will likely have some involvement with the recently confirmed Wonder Woman sequel. Hopefully, Robotech can hit the same kind of success Wonder Woman has, establishing another winning franchise for Sony.

Not much else is known about the live-action project, including a potential release date, but we’ll keep you posted.

While it isn’t in live action, fans can also get their Robotech fix in Titan Comics new ongoing comic series. The book is written by Brian Wood with art by Marco Turini, and the next issue hits comic shops on September 27, 2017.
