New Live-Action JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Adaptation Announced

On March 19th, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is set to return to Netflix with the highly anticipated release of the Steel Ball Run. In this next anime chapter, Johnny Joester and Gyro Zeppeli are horse racing across America in an attempt to win their hearts’ desire. In a surprise twist, the seventh chapter of the series isn’t the only adaptation in the works from the Stand-focused franchise. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has announced that another live-action adaptation is in the works, and in a surprising twist, it will be a completely original story that never took place in the manga.

While the main JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise has had a live-action film that adapted the events of Diamond is Unbreakable, the biggest adaptation has been following the life of supporting character Kishibe Rohan. Not only did Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan receive several episodes for its live-action series, but it also created two feature-length films. Rohan au Louvre and Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: At a Confessional followed the manga artist as he searched for new inspiration, though the next installment will be far different. “Izumi Kyoka Does Not Shut Up” is the name of the next television episode of the franchise, focusing on Rohan’s editor, holding an original story from franchise creator Hirohiko Araki.

Who is Izumi Kyoka?

Unlike Kishibe Rohan, Izumi does not have a Stand to back her up, which might make her entry far scarier than what we’ve seen from the series so far. The side story has focused far more on the supernatural than the tale of the Joestars, as Rohan is dragged into wild stories in search of manga inspiration. Kyoka isn’t confirmed to be receiving a Stand in this new tale arriving in Japan this May, though it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Hirohiko Araki gave her an upgrade.

In a recent interview, actress Marie Iitoyo discussed her upcoming special and her history with the series. “This marks my seventh year working on the Kishibe Rohan series, and I’m more surprised than anyone else to have been approached to play Izumi Kyoka as the protagonist. And while this is the first completely original story, Hirohiko Araki collaborated on the script. It’s exciting to see a new side of Kyoka we’ve never seen before. In addition to the two writers and directors, Mayu, the new episodes were produced with new members. They always maintain their passion for the world of Rohan until they’re satisfied with it. This sincere attitude remains as strong as ever, even with this new team. Kyoka, a
“being of light” with a positive, “when it’s time to do it,” always has a positive attitude. What kind of supernatural phenomenon will she face this time? But wait, hasn’t Kyoka never encountered any supernatural phenomena before? For all you viewers out there thinking that, you’re right! How will she solve the problem without Rohan by her side? But it seems Izumi Kyoka won’t stay silent.”
