ABC have inked a deal to retain U.S. broadcast rights to A Charlie Brown Christmas and other Peanuts specials through 2020, Entertainment Weekly reports. The deal is an extension of their existing contract with Peanuts Worldwide LLC and Lee Mendelson Film Productions to keep the Emmy-winning specials like A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The specials were created by Charles M. Schulz and produced and animated by Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez. Distributed by Warner Bros. for home video, the Peanuts specials began airing on ABC in 2001. A Charlie Brown Christmas first aired in 1965. The network specials won five Emmys, two Peabodys and 18 other Emmy nominations.
