Wright, of course, has since pulled out of the film after creative differences with the studio made it clear that the pair weren’t interested in making the same film. The move caused a production delay that cost the film actor Patrick Wilson and has clearly upset some actors, most vocally Michael Douglas.

Rudd also talked about the broader appeal of the Marvel Universe and his…unorthodox…Comic Con cosplay choice.
What drew you to Ant-Man?
Well, there were a lot of things that I was drawn to. It’s a completely different thing than I’ve done.
When I first got this job, Edgar Wright was the director and Edgar Wright is a good friend of mine and I loved the idea of working with Edgar.
And when he explained it to me, I was excited across the board, he being a big part of it, the Marvel Universe, which is so outside of the realm of my thinking. I never thought I would be here amongst The Avengers. And so there were a lot of components for sure.
When we think of Marvel, we think larger than life. Do you think your tiny little guy can be a game-changer?
Well, I don’t know. One of the things that I’ve always found really interesting with these movies is that they coexist. You have Thor, who’s up on some planet and you have Iron Man, who’s here and there’s so much to explore and in Ant-Man you’re going to see parts of this world from a vantage point and a perspective that you never have before, and it makes you feel like you’re on another planet. I’m excited about, just visually, how strange it might look.
What would you dress up as to attend Comic Con?
I know it’s a cliche, kind of hack answer but I guess Tom Snyder from The Tomorrow Show. Or a janitor, that’d be my second choice. Or Tom Snyder as a janitor would really blow some people’s minds.
