10 Marvel Women Who Should Come to Disney Infinity 3.0

Disney Infinity has a great, diverse cast of characters. Pulling from Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel, the character list has grown by leaps and bounds in the first three years of the game’s life. It continues to grow as Disney Infinity 3.0 will stick around as the base platform for 2016, which will also see the release of new play sets from all four brands, alongside other characters and content.

But as the game grows, so does a problem, especially in the Marvel category – the extreme lack of parity in female versus male characters. As of March 15’s launch of Marvel Battlegrounds and accompanying characters, there will be 26 male characters from the Marvel family in Disney Infinity, including two Captain America figures, two Iron Man figures, and two Spider-Man figures. There are, in contrast, two female characters, Black Widow and Gamora, both released in 2014.

It’s a more stark (no Iron Man pun, I swear) figure when you look at the Star Wars play sets, which each came with one male and one female figure, or the Disney and Pixar figures, where a better (but still eschew) ratio of just under 2:1 exists.

So for the rest of 2016, we want to see some more Marvel women step into the fight. Yes, it would’ve been great to have them out in time for Captain America: Civil War, but 2016’s a long year, and there’s still plenty of time to add to the roster. Here are ten characters we think would be a good fit. Please note, we’re not including Fantastic Four or X-men characters here, as current licensing rights prevent them from being included.

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch was a central character in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and has a role as an official member of the team in Captain America: Civil War. Those aren’t the only reasons she’d be a great fit for Disney Infinity, though. With dynamic visual powers, and abilities that range from her disorienting hex-bolts (imagine, you fire one at a foe in Battlegrounds and their controls become flipped for a time) to her telekinetic abilities (which mirror those of the Jedi or even Ultron in the game), she would be a fairly easy, yet completely new character to bring into the mix. And can you say comic book costume disc?

Thor

Since Disney Interactive hasn’t shied away from second versions of characters, the proposition here is simple: a second Thor, but this one’s the woman. The female Thor has been around in the comics for a year and a half now, after Jane Foster was deemed worthy of Mjolnir when Thor Odinson lost it. You don’t really need all that backstory though, to simply have a kickass female Thor. Tweak her powers slightly, making her a bit faster, a bit more creatively range-based (charging objects with lightning, or even charging foes with strikes that propel them across the screen, for instance), and you’ve solved two problems (another Thor, more female characters) in one.

Quake

This one’s a little outside-the-box for this game, but it would be nice to start seeing some Marvel TV characters crossover into the space. While Jessica Jones might not be the best fit for an all-ages game (suppose you could use her superhero identity of Jewel and call it a prequel), Quake aka Daisy Johnson on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would be wonderful. She has completely different powers from any character in the game so far, and her vibrational abilities could be used in close quarters, directed into the ground, or long distance, stunning enemies or dropping objects out of their hands. Her S.H.I.E.L.D. connection and their use in-game already makes it easy to fit her in story-wise as well.

Spider-Gwen

The newest character on this list, Spider-Gwen is an alternate reality Spider, where Gwen Stacy was bitten on that fateful day, and became Spider-Woman to protect the world. The character, thanks largely to the dynamic and exciting design by Robbi Rodriguez and Jason Latour, took off in a major way, as a favorite of cosplayers and collectors alike. While her powers are at their core simply Spider-Man’s, new movement animations, and a more gymnastic-like melee combat system could make even the fourth Spider-character feel fresh. Just think of a special move that brings her band on screen, and their rock out blasts waves of power at the enemies. Now, don’t you want that?

Medusa

Medusa is queen of the Inhumans, ruling over an entire race of beings on Earth. Her prehensile hair helps her keep order, and kick butt on the battlefield. It would also look really freaking cool in a video game like Disney Infinity. Honestly, Medusa is high on our list almost exclusively because we’d love to see what Art Director Jeff Bunker and his team could come up with, both digitally and in the figure.

She-Hulk

Similar to our Thor pitch, She-Hulk , the cousin of Bruce Banner, the Hulk, shares her green skin and rage-fueled super strength with him, but little else. Her easier demeanor and full retention of her Jennifer Walters personality (and considerable intelligence) changes the way she fights and handles any situation, so she’d be way more than just a re-skinned Hulk. If you really want to change things up, there’s always a Red She-Hulk, too (though a costume change disc would probably be better there). She’s also been in the conversion-friendly Marvel Animated universe, like most of the characters in the line up.

Squirrel Girl

She’s quirky, her comic books have been mostly comedy, and she has defeated Thanos and Doctor Doom. She has a bushy tail, talks to squirrels, and even has her own little furry creature army. Yes, Squirrel Girl, recently retconned by Marvel to not be a mutant so that they can include her in things like this game, with her cute look and unique mix of martial arts and long range squirrel summoning attacks would be a great fit for Disney Infinity. Also appeared on Ultimate Spider-Man, the source of many of the characters in the Marvel DI line-up.

Misty Knight

One half of the Daughters of the Dragon with Colleen Wing, Misty Knight is a fighter of the highest caliber, has a bionic arm and a rockin’ afro, and can go toe-to-toe with Iron Fist. Her style alone is reason to make her a character in the game – just picture that red suit, a metallic arm, and that glorious hair in Disney Infinity plastic figure form. Bonus: a Colleen Wing team-up power disc can accompany it. Boom.

Ms. Marvel

The breakout star of the last few years is ready for her close-up, and Disney Infinity is just the place to give it to her. Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, is a glorious character that represents everything that makes Marvel Comics awesome. She gets power, and immediately accepts responsibility. She’s struggling to learn about her powers, but more importantly she’s struggling to learn about herself. Oh, and her look is classic superhero, and her powers, with shape-shifting and size-changing, would be a cool addition to the game.

Captain Marvel

And that brings us to perhaps the most obvious one, Ms. Marvel’s inspiration. Captain Marvel just needs to be in this game. Yeah, she’s coming into the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon, and getting her own movie. But more than that, she has the #CarolCorps of fans behind her. It doesn’t hurt that the digital model for the character is already in the game, since she’s a mission giver in the Avengers play set, and a late-add Team-Up power disc. C’mon, Disney Interactive, Make Mine Marvel!
