Killer Instinct is the 1990s fighting game series created by Rare. The game was rebooted by Microsoft Studios in 2013. The reboot has run for three seasons so far, introducing new characters with each new season. These characters include the Arbiter from Halo and General Raam from Gears of War. Both of those franchises are published by Microsoft, but their inclusion opens the door for other franchise crossovers if a deal could be struck with Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
Mortal Kombat is no stranger to crossovers either. In 2008, Midway Games developed Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, pitting Mortal Kombat characters against iconic superheroes. The DC Universe characters got their own game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, in 2011 and Mortal Kombat mainstay Scorpion was a playable character available via DLC. The most recent installment of the core Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat X, featured several downloadable characters from other franchises, including Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a Xenomorph from Alien, the titular Predator from the Predator film series, and Jason Vorhees from the Friday the 13th film series.
