There’s a lot to love in the new Deadpool trailer. But the one thing that really kept us smiling through the jokes, gunshots, and cameos, was Deadpool’s suit. Ask anyone, even Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, and they’ll tell you that it’s not only one of the most comics accurate suits on film, but it’s also one of the slickest. It’s red velvet cake for the eyes, delighting viewers with stunning form and function.

It got us thinking about the other perfect comic book costumes that exist on screen, and what made them so special. In honor of Deadpool’s perfect costume, we run the comic book movie costumes that are just as mesmerizing.

Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016.

Iron Man (Iron Man)

ย

Thank Odin we live in the eraย of CGI. Through the wonders of modern technology, Marvel Studios was able to bring Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor to life in a believable way. But not only was the Iron Man believable, it was as suave as the billionaire beneath it. Loosely adapting artist Adi Granov’s Extrmis suit, the big screen Iron Man looked tough but sleek; modern, but iconic. No further upgrades necessary (though of course, there were several).

The latest live-action Batman suit is also the best yet. Since the technicolor days of Adam West, this is the first Batsuit to ditch the “armor’ approach and take a faithful, but functional, approach. Batman V. Superman’s suit is Frank Miller classic Dark Knight Returns design, practically ripped from the page for a hulking and menacing Batman that could fits somewhere between our reality and his.ย

Captain America Stealth Suit (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)

ย

The third time was the charm for Marvel Studios’ take on Captain America. Drawing inspiration from Steve Rogers’ Super Soldier comic book costume design from 2010, Captain America’s suit in Winter Soldier’s first half was equal parts superhero and super spy. And as a modern-day soldier, that’s really how Cap should present himself. The red, white, and blue, is nice, but this muted uniform is militaristic while still imaginative.ย

Rorschach (Watchmen)

ย

If you ever wanted a comic book movie costume in which zero liberties were taken, then this one’s for you. While nearly every cast member from Alan Moore’s acclaimed graphic novel underwent some visual adaptations for film, Rorschach remained exactly as he did on the printed page. The overcoat and stripedย pants held up surprisingly well in the movie’s action scenes, showing that even underneath all those layers (physical and otherwise) Rorschach was still a physical powerhouse.ย

Spider-Man (Amazing Spider-Man 2)

ย

As the only redeeming quality of Amazing Spider-Man 2, this costume is the strongest live-action interpretation across all Spider-Man movies. What it really came down to was Spidey’s eye-lenses, which were as bright, buggy, and bigย as they are in the comics. Add a brightened color palette, and reduced visual texture (the spider-suit doesn’t need to look like a wearable basketball), and this suit a perfect 10. Hopefully the upcoming Spider-Man reboot doesn’t try to fix what isn’t broken when they introduce Hollywood’s latestย stab atย Peter Parker’s threads.
