Anthony Mackie (“Gangster Squad”) has been hitting press circuit pretty hard of late to promote his new movie Black Or White, which also stars Kevin Costner (“Dances With Wolves”) and Olivia Spencer (“The Help”). During interview after interview he has had to field a lot of questions related to Captain America 3, which he described as “Avengers 3.8.” In this latest interview he expounds on his reason for that description.

“The way I look at it, Captain America [The Winter Soldier] was a spin-off of Avengers, but it was so much better than Avengers,” Anthony Mackie told WXYZ-TV Detroit | Channel 7. “With the new Avengers [Age of Ultron] coming out, the trailer that came out, it’s gonna be 10 times better than Avengers. So, [Captain America: Civil War] is gonna be so much better than Avengers 2. It can’t be Avengers 2.5, it’s like Avengers 3.8. It’s so far past where Avengers is gonna be this summer. Just having read [Civil War script], and seen the specs of what they’re gonna do, it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”

Mackie has been doing a lot of lobbying for more appearances in upcoming Marvel films and even though he doesn’t have a role in Avengers: Age Of Ultron as of yet. At least that we know of. He’s still pitching to be part of the re-shoots. “I hope so, they’re still shooting,” he explained. “They’re still adding pieces so I’m definitely waiting for the call, Marvel, to be added in any way, shape, or form that I can.”

Captain America: Civil War opens May 16th, 2016.
