Earlier today, Funimation and Kodansha Comics kicked off the holidays with a massive Attack On Titan reveal. The two partnered up to debut the official promotion trailer for Season 2 of Attack On Titan. Clocking in at under two minutes, the action-packed footage introduces audiences to brand new Titans and more – but there is one beast who is catching everyone’s eye.

Anime fans will be unfamiliar with the character, but the creature is anything but new to manga readers. The beast is aptly known as the Beast Titan because of its wild, furry appearance. Introduced in July 2012, the behemoth first appeared in front of Mike Zacharias after the 104th Training Corps learn Titans have breached Wall Rose.

Offering to distracts the Titan horde, Mike lets his friends escape the war zone, but he is soon stopped by the unusual creature. The Beast Titan kills Mike’s horse, leaving Mike to be swarmed by an abnormal Titan. The Beast Titan then begins speaking with Mike about his gear and training, leaving the Survey Corps member scared out of his mind. Then, when the Beast Titan has had his fun, he leaves Mike to be devoured by the awaiting Titans who wanted a snack.

In the Attack On Titan manga, the Beast Titan is one of the most dangerous villains Eren and his friends encounter. Recently, readers learned a rather shocking truth about the Titan that upheaved their understanding of the series. It was revealed that the Beast Titan was actually Zeke Yeager, a Titan Shifter and half-brother to Eren Yeager. The man works for the country’s government as a warchief and uses his Titan Shifting abilities to help retrieve the Coordinate, a powerful weapon which can control Edlian Titans.

If you are not familiar with ttack On Titan, then you should know the popular anime is renowned for its intense action and gritty storylines. The anime follows a boy named Eren Yeager in an alternate world overrun by massive creatures known as Titans. These mindless beasts have all but wiped out humanity, and mankind is left to cower in fear behind massive walls. When their sanctum is infiltrated by a slew of Titans, Eren and his friends Armin and Mikasa join the military to help eradicate the blood-thirty monsters. But, as they grow older, they learn that the beasts are not what they appear as long-held government conspiracies make themselves known.

Since Attack On Titan‘s first season wrapped, the series has become an international hit amongst audiences. The first 25-episode season debuted in 2013 and can be streamed online at sights like Hulu. As fans waited for a second season to come around, Attack On Titan has been busy expanding itself into a full-on franchise. The manga has since been adapted into various side manga series, light novels, and even live-action films. In Japan, the first of two films based on the post-apocalyptic series debuted in July 2015 with the second following in September.
