Ever since 20th Century Fox got the drop on Marvel Studios and announced that Kick-Ass 2 star Evan Peters would join the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past as Quicksilver, fans have wondered who might play the role for Marvel’s own Avengers 2, in which both Quicksilver and his sister the Scarlet Witch had already been announced.Could this be the beginning of a shared cinematic universe? Or was it more likely to create in-fighting between Marvel and Fox?Well, it looks like the former is totally out of the question, and the latter doesn’t seem too unlikely; The Wrap is reporting that Marvel’s choice for the role is Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson–which will inevitably be seen by some as a shot across the bow at Mark Millar, the creator of Kick-Ass and overseer of Fox’s Marvel movies.Besides the upcoming Kick-Ass 2 and the in-development Kick-Ass 3, Taylor-Johnson is currently filming Godzilla for Legendary Pictures, cementing his role as a major franchise leading man.Director Joss Whedon recently spoke with PBS, intimating that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch won’t be an easy fit with the Avengers and may even be foes in their first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance in 2015. You can see the video embedded below.”We are introducing Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch who are mainstays of The Avengers universe,” Whedon said. “They’re foes, they’ve been allies and they’re very interesting to me because I grew up reading The Avengers. They have powers that are visually exciting, different from the characters we’ve seen before so I’m excited to knock them against The Avengers and see what shakes loose.”
