Earlier this morning, there was quite a bit of excitement at the ComicBook.com offices in Nashville, as a headline spotted by one of our writers on Facebook declared that a Nashville landmark had been selected for filming for the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman movie. Unfortunately, our celebration was short lived, as we quickly realized the story was fake.

The story started off believable enough, as it claimed that the AT&T building, which is affectionately known as the Batman building in Nashville, had been selected to double as Wayne Enterprises in Batman Vs. Superman. However, the second paragraph had a major clue as to the authenticity of the story.
The story quoted a DC representative named Matt Hagen as saying, “Using the AT&T building is a natural choice to represent Wayne Enterprises in Batman vs. Superman. It’s unique design reinforces the subtlety in storytelling that director Zack Snyder is widely known for.”
Matt Hagen just happens to be the alias of Batman villain Clayface, who is not a DC employee as far as we know. Also, a second quote reportedly from Snyder himself had the director making fun of the massive death and destruction in Man of Steel, which is not something Snyder would likely do.
While the story appeared on a site called Nashville.com, which usually reports legitimate news, the linked source was an April Fools’ Day story on Nashville Geek Life. It’s not uncommon for media to sometimes get taken in by some of the more clever joke stories that run on April Fools’ Day, and the Batman building story was certainly clever and funny. However, why an April Fools’ Day joke would resurface over three months later is still a little bit of a mystery.
The possibility that Batman Vs. Superman stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot might be filming in town created such excitement on social media that it appears that the Nashville.com site was actually knocked offline from all the traffic.
Even though the story was a April Fools’ Day joke, we were really thrilled at the thought of Batman Vs. Superman coming to Nashville. So if Zack Snyder is reading this, here’s another article released today by the Nashville Business Journal, which contains some interesting info on Nashville’s Batman building. As NBJ points out, the Batman building has “a three-story-tall garden, enclosed in glass and temperature-controlled so it can flourish all year round.” Sounds like it would make a pretty good Wayne Enterprises, doesn’t it?
