The CW Network today announced a renewal for Beauty and the Beast, the Kristin Kreuk-starring remake of the Ron Perlman/Linda Hamilton romantic drama about the mythical couple. The series was launched with some fanfare on the cable network, but since its ratings had lagged behind its fellow freshman series Arrow, based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, its future has been unclear for nearly its whole life. The network also ordered The Originals, a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, to series. The future of that show had been considered uncertain after a backdoor pilot on The Vampire Diaries aired to soft ratings. As soon as we saw last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, we knew we wanted more of The Originals — Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have done a fantastic job with The Vampire Diaries, which is as fast-paced and well-written as ever, and Julie has created an equally compelling world for The Originals,” said Pedowitz. “We’re also very excited to bring back Beauty And The Beast and Hart Of Dixie for next season — both series continue to be creatively strong and compelling, and their fans are incredibly passionate.Since the action remake Nikita is looking good for an additional season pickup and Tomorrow People is considered a stron contender for a spot on the schedule, The CW seems to be strengthening its genre-friendly catalog following the success of Arrow and other, similar series on other cable networks like The Walking Dead.
