According to Canadian movie website SneakPeek.ca, Fringe writer Andrew Kreisberg has turned in his draft for a Syfy network pilot based on DC Comics hero Booster Gold.Reported last week at the fan blog Boosterrific, it took us a while to pick up on this story as we tried to confirm the report–but nobody has responded yet.Fans will likely be pleased, should the pilot eventually be produced. In addition to the TV pilot, Kreisberg also wrote the Justice League Unlimited episode “The Greatest Story Never Told,” a fan-favorite that jives very well with Booster’s post-52 identity as a hero who has to do most of his good work in anonymity and allow the world to believe he’s incompetent.Booster last appeared on television as a guest star during the final season of the long-running CW series Smallville.Created by Superman co-writer and artist Dan Jurgens, Booster Gold is the story of a disgraced college athlete from the future who, upon stealing some technology that allows him to act as though he has super-powers, travels back in time to find respect, fame and fortune in the past. How the show will shape up is hard to guess; there have been various interpretations of Booster gold over the years, ranging from a fairly straightforward superheroic tale in the ’80s to the “Abbott and Costello of the superhero set” gig with Blue Beetle throughout the ’90s and finally, in recent years, his role as secret Time Master of the DC Universe. It was recently confirmed by DC Co-Publisher (and onetime Booster Gold writer) Geoff Johns that, in spite of the relaunch of the DCU, Booster sill serves in that capacity. The character is currently featured in Justice League International, also written by Jurgens.
