Today, we’re getting our first look at Matt Damon in the fifth entry in the Bourne franchise. The only reason we know that we’re getting a trailer is thanks to author Eric Van Lustbader who has since deleted a Facebook post. While details are sparse, including the title, here is what we know.
First things first, Matt Damon will return to the role of Jason Bourne for the first time in 9 years. While Jeremy Renner’s outing was fine on it’s own, fans have been waiting to see Damon back on the run.
Earlier in the year, Damon gave fans some insight into what the story might actually be about. “There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties,” since 2007’s Bourne Ultimatum, Damon said.
In a different interview, Damon went on to say “[Bourne] has his memory back, but that doesn’t mean he knows everything. It’s 12 years since Jason Bourne has been on the grid. So we have to answer the questions, Where’s he been? What’s he doing? What gets him going again? So once we solved all that, then we had a movie.”
The Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass is also returning for the new Bourne. The film also stars Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, and Vincent Cassel. Principal photography began in September 2015.
Super Bowl 50 airs Feb. 7 on CBS. Check out the next Bourne movie and other movies are coming out in ComicBook.com’s Movie Release Schedule.
