Tonight’s episode of Riverdale brought forth a slew of family drama, especially for Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes). Early in the episode, she discovered the relationship between her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols) and Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), which sent her into a tailspin.

And after Hermione went behind her daughter’s back, forging her signature to grant Fred the construction contract from Lodge Industries, Veronica ended this episode with a lot of emotions, according to Mendes.

“I feel like she’s being tested.” Mendes revealed to ComicBook.com. “People are betraying her constantly and disappointing her, but I think that’s what’s making her stronger and as long as she keeps focused on her through-line, which his that ‘I’m going to be a better person. Im going to be selfless, I’m going to be giving.’, that’s going to save her.”

But with that in mind, can viewers expect Veronica to get back at Hermione for betraying her with the contract? According to Mendes, Veronica will definitely use some sort of tactics in her favor against her mother.

“I think as far as she goes would be general manipulation of her mother. I think she uses her old self when she was crazier, and brings that back a little bit to kind of threaten her mom, and be like ‘Do you want to see the old Veronica?’ That’s the only way she knows how to communicate with her mother, and that kind of ends up working in the end.”

Fans will just have to wait and see exactly how Veronica and Hermione’s increasingly-complicated dynamic changes in future episodes.
